Honor the Pain, and Breathe anyway!!!

This section is for
For Survivors of Dysfunction.... becoming Thrivers...

I grew up as part of a family that was abused physically verbally and subjected to humiliation and pain by a mean, constantly rejecting parent- figure who often hated his own children, especially when they showed their neediness or, God forbid, any trace of ego—and that doesn’t leave much room for a child.
Father's thinking was insane-- ritualistic expectations and behavior -- while he claimed, with powerful voice and manner, that he exhibited the esssence of rational and sane behavior. He not only asserted His will but argued a very convincing case for the correctness of his opinions.
There is much to my story that I will reveal only slowly, as I feel safe to do so. I have overcome much-- huge things no child should have to face, and events that have appalled others.

I know I am not alone in my experiences.

I am the one who must learn to live with these things.

I do it by BREATHING, allowing, feeling, & reaching out for help...

In my lifetime, I know I am lucky to heal enough to begin feeling even a little comfort in my own skin.

To not want to kill myself, even that has been a big thing many days.

Now, even in my 50's I find my tormentors' pictures emerging on canvasses that come from between my ears. I'm blessed to be able to actually commit them to pen, paper, and paint helping my recovery and to honor the pain which is a part of recovery as well--what I've lived through deserves honor, respect and honesty in the telling. After all, if John McCain ,as prisoner of war, can be a hero, why is my experience any less worthy of honor?

In these pages, I sometimes speak with the soothing voice of a Healing avatar I know as Lollipop Mom--- you can be part of that too!

Together we can build these pages as a resource of hope for survivors-- there is great hope and awakening to be had, so

It feels great to have the many sharing their journey & their healing, the support the feeling of not being alone, but rather being a part of a fellowship that is alive, active & pro- active in recovery, even beyond the simple, but also surrendering anything that stands in the way between us & the truth of my inner voice…

I still see alot of "not listening" to the guidance of that Voice of truth...

The requirements of my body & spirit are so different & I often need so much more care & tending than I ever thought, or want to give out... i see that more & more, the needs & the reluctance to meet all that demands... the other side of that coin is that I also have to accept myself & love me even tho I cannot do all I believe Hp would have me do.. that, (believing I am not "enuf" ) has dis-ease in it--- non- acceptance of my human limits. No one can convince me or change me but me & the “something Greater” I reach out to for help. I have to look within & take stock of my own beliefs & withholds, ask the “something Greater’s ” will & light on all that, & often that means transforming my thinking as well as actions.

I gotta break the glass holding me in, & u & the “ Greater Spirit” out... But the glass is near invisible, so much a part of the air i breathe... I feel scared,-- I can't , but the Higher Power can do this, even when I can’t ... I gotta Let Her... Thanks for a Higher Power, for a Bigger view. thanks for the fellowship, I need u now & I need me, & I need hp... HP Hugs, Lucky

The state in which one should be to seriously search for the truth
is the condition of the thirsty, burning soul desiring the water of life, of
the fish struggling to reach the sea, of the sufferer seeking for the true
doctor to obtain the divine cure, of the lost caravan endeavoring to find

sanctified, and free from the love or the hatred of the inhabitants of the

condition of seeking, and the seeker must have these qualities and
attributes. Until he reaches this condition, it is not possible for him to

Introducing — Lollipop Mom :)

“ Lollipop Mom” was born in the course of this work.. She represents the Mom everyone loves and needs— the Mom who makes peanut butter sandwiches and Kool– Aid, alling the kids in for a snack on a hot day. She could be your mom, she could be my mom, or anybody’s mom. Even in mean moms, she appears once in a while, giving us something to hope for...

Lollipop Mom could be my alter ego, or yours— she lives inside us ladies, and many good and kind men as well.

Surely she appeared to make this road easier, as a more gentle guide for this “dysfunctional family tour.” Thank God for kind moms everywhere. They make things a little easier when times are rough.

My own “Lollipop Mom” tried hard to be a good mom. But she was an abuse survivor, and the whole family suffered abuse. It runs in families, for generations The only way to stop the cycle is to start talking about it, start taking action, and healing ourselves. Being a “survivor” of abuse alone is enough, and a testimony to the resiliency of the human spirit. We become ”thrivers” when actively involved in recovery, healing and building a better life.

Lollipop mom and I are survivors-- and Thrivers. We did the best we could with what we had at the time, and, as time will tell, it is enough !

Lollipop Mom Welcomes all you courageous Survivors & Thrivers in this new Millenium

You are Courageous just to face the truth every daY! Don’t quit before the Miracle!

Ode to David

A Survivor's Story

Indian Summer

It was August, hot and blistering. A package, shrouded in mystery— “Something” seeming to catch great attention, was being held behind locked and quiet doors. A secret was hidden there— a monster, perhaps, a puppy, or a simple drink of water? So many things beyond the reach of a little girl’s mind…

When you were born, little brother, I’d no idea just how much fullness you’d bring to the days, or just how much I could learn to live without. Something beyond our understanding splashed across the headlines of our young lives that year. For now, the gods of life seemed to care less. Mom— she was gone in a flash. Sick, remote, or taken up with something else. That basket— was it something in that basket? At long last I approached the strange and wondrous bundle. A wail, a sudden pain— your tiny fingers scratched my face until it bled. Mom said you didn't know. Neither did I, but quickly learned to stay away. The scars from that event lived well beyond my youth— little did I know just how deep your mark was yet to be, upon my soul.

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it is the stuff of an engaged life. At eighteen months you toddled forth: funny, fussy, seeking out the world. How I loved playing “tour guide” to a world I too had so recently discovered. The bond between us grew, as we made mud pies in the garden, digging down — “to China”— Mom said, but little did she know. We were digging up our “Inky”, who’d died the year before. In our child’s minds, that little dog would pop right out as good as new. Indoors, you’d play Dad and I’d play Mom, a natural in the game. Cowgirl to your cowboy, ballerina to your fan, girlfriend to your boyfriend, rider on your truck— adventures lit with spark and glamour filled that carefree, happy time. You were the first boy I knew— and the last— who let me see him loving dolls, flowers and the glitzy things of life just as much as I did. You trusted and looked up to me ( and at that age, not many people did!), and I relied on you as well. Your loving heart was a treasure, too soon to be lost...

A True and Simple Love

It was May. The tight green buds of oaks and acorns had opened, sprouting quickly into large lush leaves adorning the majestic trees, creating the deep shade that cools that part of the city. Constant companions, true friends, we were charged with one another’s safety, walking from school to home, and home to school. I at seven, and you at six, floated in a magic world. Bad events were relegated to that sea, floating down the tides of time. There was little beyond the now— meeting friends easily, still discovering, still amazed at the world before us. Green “cater-worms”, hanging from silvery threads; a locust, born from a shell before our eyes, suspended our hearts in the marvel of life. Together we shared those events, later drinking Kool– aid and talking over the deeds of the day.

Love they say, conquers all, but those last days are a blur to me. I know that you, my best beloved, had to know something was wrong right away. Childish in my ways, without words to tell, who would— who could anyway— speak the unspeakable. Father have you left me, mother do you know-- oh, brother-- help my soul!
